Tropical Storm Elsa had a short Siesta Key visit on July 6 and 7, bringing 2 inches of rain and wind gusts that exceeded 50 mph.
The sustained winds were in the 35-40 mph range.
Many businesses closed early on July 6, as did the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport.
Regarding damage, the Key suffered none. Beach Road was flooded a bit, but that is common with most every storm.
Here’s a video reminder of our storm, which did indeed reach hurricane status for a few hours but remained far offshore when it reached Sarasota.
