Andrew Monroe 5K a success

There were roughly 400 participants that supported the ninth-annual Andrew Monroe Memorial 5k Run/Walk, held Jan. 9 on Siesta Beach. The race is in memory of Andrew Monroe, who died in a car crash in 2011.

The proceeds generate scholarships to senior soccer and track athletes, and JROTC cadets, at Riverview High School. Also, there will be two $1,000 scholarships established in perpetuity through the Andrew Monroe Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Sarasota Community Foundation.

Due to COVID-19, this was one of the first live races on Siesta Key Beach for 2022 and the first race this year in the Manasota Track Club race series.
