November 1 to Jan 3 – Out of Bounds Match Up returns to the Florida Studio Theatre… Saturdays at 7:30 pm. Two teams take the stage in Bowne’s Lab to compete for the most laughs. Taking audience ideas, the FST Improv actors will turn suggestions into amusing routines. The audience will determine who wins this battle of wits. Tickets $15. November 1 to 14 RAP-Punzel by Beth Duda & Adam Ratner in the Keating Theatre at the Florida Studio Theatre – A children’s outreach program catering to elementary age children. Guests are encouraged to wear faux feathers, fins, and masks to reflect the theme, Extinct and Endangered Species. Ticket are $25 (limited tickets) – also on November 5 from 9am to 5pm there will be a mask making class “Get Your Hands Dirty” at the Venice Art Center. Masks will be used at the Gala & Chalk Festival.
Nov 14 to Nov 17 8:00am – 6:00pm The 7th Annual Chalk Festival on the Island of Venice – the theme this year is Extinct and Endangered Species. This year the festival is celebrating the creatures and animals we share our beautiful planet with, and raising awareness about those animals we’re in danger of losing and those we have already lost. The artists will use the theme of ‘Extinct and Endangered Species’ as inspiration for the colorful, interactive pieces they create. You can ask them about their artwork, they enjoy interacting with festival-goers!
The 3D Pavement Art and large interactive 3D street paintings will be at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds – (Fairgrounds) Airport Avenue (east end), Venice, Florida 34285 & also at the Venice Cultural Campus – 326 Nokomis Ave S, Venice, FL 34285.
The Chalk Festival 2014 is a nonprofit community arts event. Artists from around the world travel to create masterpieces using chalk as their medium and the road surface as their canvas. Enjoy watching the process unfold as world renowned artists create their masterpieces. The festival is made possible by sponsors, contributions and volunteers. Donations accepted & appreciated!
Each chalk work takes 3-7 days to complete, depending on the size and complexity of the design. The largest 3D Street Painting in the USA will be created at the Venice Airport Fairgrounds and will be open for viewing, and interactive photos. November 14-17, 2014. The artists will try to break the Guinness World record for largest pavement art, it will be an underwater scene of extinct and endangered species. The Chalk masterpiece will be created by over 50 local and international artists and include 18,900 sq. ft., that will measure, 42’ x 450 feet!
Gala goers will have the opportunity to have their face or body painted as an extinct or endangered species. A limited number of appointments will be scheduled.
November 16 there will be a closing party for the Chalk Festival from 6pm to 9pm http://chalkfestival.org/
November 14 to 18, 10 am to 5:30pm Siesta Key Crystal Classic Mater Sand Sculpting Competition. Master Sand sculptors compete for top spot as they create sand art on Siesta Key beach. Thousands of people attend throughout the competition viewing massive sand sculptures on gorgeous SK beach. Admission is $6. Children under 4 are free. Proceeds will benefit Mote Marine Laboratory’s Sea Turtle Research and Conservation programs.
Venice Main Street along with The Suncoast Blues Society present the 2nd Annual Venice Blues Festival. The festival is located just south of Venice Pier and Sharky’s near Brohard Beach and Paw Park. This year’s headliner is blues legend, Mac Arnold, born in South Carolina. His career has spanned 40 years, he spent time playing in Chicago, where he perfected his blues skills. He’s played with all the greats, James Brown, Otis Spann, B.B. King and Otis Redding. He was a member of the Muddy Waters Band in the 60’s and also recorded with John Lee Hooker. He also produced Soul Train in LA. At age 72, Mac Arnold, is still very active in the Blues community. Also performing is blues guitar master, Joe Moss from Chicago, with his powerful voice and amazing blues guitar skills. Kat Riggins is a great blues & soul singer from the east coast of Florida. Blues guitar player RJ Howson, will amaze you with his awesome guitar style, he’s been playing for nearly 30 years. Our local favorite, Twinkle and Rock Soul radio, will also be on hand. They just released a new CD and will play songs from the new release. The Florida Blues Brothers will be making appearances all day and will MC the event. The event has been sponsored by local businesses and breweries. Proceeds of this event will help Venice Schools acquire student instruments…
