So much to do & see in “our little beachtown!”  Enjoy the December events!

December 1 to January 1: Holly Days and Mangrove Lights at Historic Spanish Point decorated buildings and gardens on a beautiful 30 acre setting with 5,000 years of history on little Sarasota Bay.  Every Thursday & Friday evening they will be open late from 5 to 8pm.   Enjoy a cool evening stroll and see beautiful lights at the White Cottage, Mrs. Palmer’s Sunken Garden, Mary’s Chapel, the museum and the mangrove tunnel of lights.  Historic Spanish Pointe is open Mon to Sat, 9 am to 5 pm, Sun. 12pm to 5:00 p.m.  Admission $12.

December 3, 8pm – Smokey Joe’s Cafe Featuring The Coasters – Broadway’s longestSmokeyJoesCafefeaturingTheCoasters running musical, rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest hits!

December 4, 11, 18: Holiday Nights at Ca’ dZan at the Ringling Museum. The Mansion is beautifully decorated and includes a 10’ tree in the Grand Court. Open 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Art After 5.  Evening Admission: $10/adults, $5/children. on December 4 from 5 pm to 9 pm.  There is a benefit for Toys for Tots

Support the US Marine Corps, Toys for Tots program and delight in an evening of music by local area students.  The Museum of Art, Circus Museum and Ca’d’Zan (first floor).  Admission is free on Dec 4 with one unwrapped toy per guest.  “Art after 5” admission: $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6 – 17, free for 5 and under. Toys are also available for purchase in the Museum Store.

December 4: Wine, Dine & Pine Event at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.   Wine, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, a silent auction, a drawing for Restaurant gift certificates, and more to benefit Selby Gardens… $60 per person in The Great Room at Selby.

December 5 & 6, 12 & 13, 19 to 24, 26 to 28, 6pm to 9pmHoliday Lights Spectacular at Jungle Gardens.  Music, entertainment, S’mores & Marshmallow roasting with millions of lights! Admission. $11. Adults, children 3 to 12 $6. Children 2 & under, free.  Jungle Gardens was established in 1939.  The park is nestled on 10 acres of gorgeous tropical landscape and lush winding jungle trails.  There are 150 native and exotic animals, birds of prey, parrots and macaws, primates, snakes, lizards, alligators, and more… many have been rescued or donated.  You can feed Koi fish and the Pink Flamingoes.  The Flamingoes walk freely in the park.  The pink color of a flamingo’s feathers is caused by carotenoid pigments in their food.  A flamingo’s diet includes shrimp, plankton, algae and crustaceans.  Bring your camera, there are a lot of photo opportunities, including posing with a parrot!  There are also entertaining bird and reptile shows during the day!  Take note of the beautiful murals on the walls of the gift shop and on the fence by the playground, they were created by Ringling students.

December 12, 7pm.  Friday Night Free Music with Karen Klarich at the Gazebo in Centennial Park in downtown Venice. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Free!  Downtown Venice.

December 19 to 23 & 26 to 29, 6pm to 9pm – Lights in Bloom at Selby Gardens.  Enjoy hot cocoa while strolling through lights at Selby Gardens.  A tropical/botanical wonderland!

December 207pm to 11pm – Winter Celebration at the Ringling Museum.  Dancing & entertainment in courtyard at the Ringling Museum. Josephs Coat Skyspace will be open. Admission: $15.  Tickets available at the Asolo.

December 27 to 30: The Sailor Circus Holiday Spectacular.  2075 Bahia Vista Street Sarasota. 941-366-0156

Jack Hanna Van WezelDecember 28, 7pm – Jack Hanna into the Wild at the Van Wezel.  Enjoy this awe-inspiring event, Jungle Jack will introduce you to some of the world’s most spectacular animals.  He will share funny stories and amazing footage from his worldwide adventures.  A show for animal lovers of all ages!
