The Amish ProjectAug 1 & 2 – The Amish Project – The Amish Project features one woman playing seven roles, on a difficult road of grief, rage and compassion.  This is a fictional story of a real-life tragedy allowing a glimpse into the culture of the Amish.  Based on the 2006 school shootings in Nickle Mines, PA.

August 7 from 6pm to 9:30pm & Aug 8 from 11am to 4pm. Artwalks – Village of the Arts in Bradenton.

Continuing through Aug 9 – Florida Flavor – at the Art Center. All-Florida, all-media, all-subject exhibition highlighting the talented artists of the Sunshine State.

over the river 2Continuing through Aug 9 – Over the River and Through the Woods at the Florida Studio Theatre.  Faced with a life-changing career decision, Nick must navigate the scheming shenanigans of his grandparents to make him stay.  Comedic surprises overflow in this family fiasco.  Pre-show dining at 6:15 for 8pm shows, in the Green Room.

August 14 from 7 to 9pm – Free Friday Night Concert at the Gazebo in Venice. of country

Continuing through Aug 15 – King of Country – Spanning four decades of country music.  Featuring music by Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, and more!

My Old LadyAug 6 to 23 – My Old Lady – When a man down on his luck inherits and apartment in Paris, he plans to sell the property to solve his financial issues.  He discovers a woman living there has rights to stay under French law.  With nowhere else to go he stays with her in the spacious apartment and learns about love and friendship.

August 11, 12 – The Best of the Ten Minute Play Festival – Comedy/Drama. ten minute play 1Presented by Theatre Odyssey at The Pinkerton. Theatre Odyssey provides a positive environment to encourage, inspire, and challenge local actors and playwrights.  The Venice Theatre welcomes you to experience the Odyssey, as they bring a selection of ten-minute plays and music to the Summer Cabaret Festival!

August 14 to Oct 25 – Back and Forth: Thinking in Paint – at the Ringling Museum.  This exhibition is a display of contemporary painting and The Ringling's well-regarded permanent collection. This is the first of current faculty from Florida State University to exhibit at The Ringling and will feature the painting faculty of the College of Fine Arts.

August 16 from 6 to 7pm – Gallery Walk & Talk at the Ringling Museum

August 18 – September 19 – The Swingaroos in the John C. Court Cabaret – Florida Studio Theatre.  Swing era Jazz music from the 20’s to date!

Through Sep 7 – From the Four Corners of the Globe – on exhibition at the Ringing Museum – The exhibition features printed advertising dominant during the 19th and early 20th centuries. A fascinating glimpse at how Americans, became increasingly informed and interested in the cultures and experiences of people from around the globe.

Art After 5 – every Thursday from 5 to 8pm at Ca d’Zan at the Ringling Museum.

Comedy Lottery plays every Saturday at 7:30pm through September 26.  Pre-show drinks and dining available at 6:30 at the Brown’s Lab Theatre at FST. Tickets just $15! Join the cast of FST Improv for a show that the audience will help create… before every show, 12 audience members randomly select from the Improv bucket.  Those 12 games will make the line-up for the night and will feature unique scenes, sketches and songs selected by you!  It’s sure to be a splendid night of improvised comedy!

Aug 21 & 28 at 7:30 – Thank you for Being A Friend – An Improvised Sitcom. Actors improvise two half-hour episodes of an original television sitcom, with audience participation, including commercials and theme song!  Pre-show dining at Brown’s Lab Theatre at the FST

YesterdayzeAug 21 at 5pm – Yesterdayze – Free Friday Fests on the bay at the Van WezelThis high energy band performs songs from the 60’s.  The Beatles, Stones, CCR, Steppenwolf and The Animals.  From Motown to the British Invasion, from Elvis to Hendrix, from Aretha to Joplin.  Yesterdayze entertains with a blast-from-the-past!

August 22 Antiques, Arts and Craft show at Mixon Fruit Farms – 4th Saturday of every month through September!

A variety of artists and vendors display their finest works…Antiques, Arts, Crafts and more! The show is set up in Mixon's Packing House. While you’re there enjoy their famous "Orange Swirl" Ice Cream or Homemade Fudge!!  Don’t miss the Florida Wines on hand for sampling!
