Bird of Paradise

Sterelitzia reginae, commonly known as Bird of Paradise. An evergreen perennial is widely cultivated for its dramatic flowers. This plant can grow to 6 feet tall & 6 feet wide with large, strong evergreen  leaves that grow in fan-shaped leaves. The flowers stand on a stem above the leaves. The flowers which open one at a time consist, of three brilliant orange sepals & three purplish-blue or white petals. The blossoms resemble a bird in flight.

Bird of Paradise craves heat and are Winter hardy in Southern Florida. Plant them in full sun with good drainage. Cut off old blooms as an added bonus it will bloom off and on all year. This is a statement plant for your garden if you have the space.
