With Salvia there’s something for everybody. Salvia, a genus of plants in the Mint family (Lamiaceae) with nearly a thousand members, is known for its toughness. heat, and chill tolerance, as well as drought resistance. Salvia can take a licking and keep on blooming beautifully.
Pick the right one for your area and it will be a durable plant. The multiple flowers come in a variety of hues: red, pink, white, purple, coral, blue, and yellow. They get about 1 to 2 feet tall. Added bonus is pollinators: butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds which use the Salvias as a nectar plant.
Currently in bloom in the Butterfly Garden of Sarasota Garden Club.1131 Blvd. of the Arts, Sarasota. Submitted by Kay Weber, Sarasota Garden Club’s Botanical Gardens Chair.
