Breakfast on Siesta Key

Your “Breakfast of Champions” can begin right here on the Key. 

Health gurus are in agreement when it comes to breakfast and how it is the most important meal of the day providing the body and brain with fuel after an overnight fast.

Another compelling reason to eat a good breakfast? According to a 2017 study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, skipping breakfast habitually may increase dangerous inflammation. The study concluded that, “higher postprandial insulin concentrations and increased fat oxidation with breakfast skipping suggest the development of metabolic inflexibility in response to prolonged fasting that may in the long term lead to low-grade inflammation and impaired glucose homeostasis.”

Breakfast also serves as an excellent occasion to eat together as a family when possible. By establishing good breakfast habits in childhood and maintaining them throughout adolescence, one can help reduce the prevalence of breakfast skipping and develop good eating habits that last a lifetime.

A good adage to keep in mind: “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.”  And know the breakfast offerings here on the Key will certainly make you feel like a king. 

Sun Garden Café is located at210 Avenida Madera, in the Village. Enjoy seriously good food in their casual family friendly garden restaurant. “We have a classic rock / throwback surf culture theme at Sun Garden – so the name of this dish was easy. Chicken and waffles originated in Mississippi, so we had to name it after a classic Mountain song,” says owners Suzanne & Rick Monroe.

MISSISSIPPI QUEEN, A buttermilk fired chicken breast glazed with papaya habanero sauce served alongside a Belgian style waffle (we have our waffle / pancake flour mixed special for us by Adluh Mills in South Carolina)  garnished with maple pepper cured bacon, bread and butter pickles and good ole maple syrup.

Village Café is located at 5133 Ocean Blvd. in the Village. Since 1995, the Village Cafe has been a Siesta Key staple for breakfast. A favorite stop for locals and visitors alike, the family-owned, casual cafe features a friendly team-oriented staff serving up filling portions of tasty food to satisfy every appetite!

EGGstravaganza – “We place a layer of steaming potatoes in a skillet, sauté toppings of your choice, melt our blend of cheeses, and top it with 2 eggs of your choice,” says co-owner Kay Kouvatsos.

Toasted Mango Café is located at 6621 Midnight Pass just south of Stickney Point Road.

The dish that earned the cafe high marks from The Food Network is the Toasted Mango’s Belgian-style waffle topped with fresh mango and toasted coconut, finished with real whipped cream.
The airy malted discs — pressed for exactly three minutes — arrive crisp and warm, adorned with cubes of ripe mango, toasted coconut flakes and whipped cream, “It’s a true taste of paradise,” say co-owners Kimberly Duffy and Sandi Wagner.

The Local Bean is a coffee shop that offers more than just grab and go food. Located in the Village, at 5138 Ocean Blvd in the Siesta Village Plaza, where Davidson’s Drugs is located, they offer this popular breakfast item.

“We have our Egg and cheddar sandwich….served on our homemade organic English muffin, choice of sausage, ham, bacon or organic tomato slices. (Pictured are the bacon, Egg and cheddar). Our homemade organic blueberry muffins made fresh everyday with organic ingredients,” says owner, Zack Peavler.
