The popular Siesta Key Oyster Bar offers not only one of the best deals for oysters and crawfish on the key, but also perhaps anywhere around.

SKOB offers a dozen oysters on the half-shell or crawfish for $6 from 3 to 6 p.m. daily. With an umbrella-covered, heavily landscaped patio overlooking the heart of Siesta Village, the restaurant and its open-enclosed bar makes a perfect after beach spot.

The daily deal, plus the appetizers, bits, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and a slew of seafood-oriented entrees make SKOB a popular hangout for regulars and visitors alike.

The 200-plus seat restaurant also has music seven days a week for late-night patrons, who may also sample a late-night two-for-one adult beverage from 10 p.m. to closing Sunday through Thursday, 11 p.m. to closing Friday and Saturday.

For those still hungry after oysters or crawfish, there is a full menu.

Popular appetizers include Coconut Crusted Fried Shrimp with Caribbean Rum Sauce ($12). A half-pound of peel-and-eat shrimp is $11, and Saku Block Tuna Paradiso — yellowfin tuna marinated in tequila, lime, lime and jalapeno, served with wasabi cucumber sauce is $13.

If there is a bunch of you that want to munch with your beer or other adult beverage from SKOB’s full bar, consider the Boatload Sampler at $22. It’s pretty much full portions of fried calamari, grouper bites, and cocoanut shrimp.

Lighter fare are the six salads, most priced at $8 or $9, offered with balsamic vinaigrette, ranch, bleu cheese, honey mustard, wasabi-cumber, or Italian vinaigrette dressing. Add-ons are chicken for $3, lump crab ($4), crab cake skewer shrimp ($5), or scallop or mixed skewer ($6), and for $8 either fresh catch, grouper, or mahi-mahi.

The SKOB Salad is slated as a salad but looks more like a meal for two for days. You get field greens, tomato, bacon, avocado, bleu cheese crumbles, boiled egg, and shredded cheddar for $9. Also popular at the same price is the BETH Salad: cucumbers, goat cheese, celery, dried cranberries, and candied walnuts. Remember all the add-ons apply if you want to gorge.

What’s an island locale without a burger in paradise? SKOB has a “Straight Up” burger for $10, served with a choice of side. All the burgers feature 100-percent Black Angus beef.

The other five burgers include the popular Cowboy, with BBQ, American cheese, and Onion rings.

There are five “SCOBwiches.” A highlight is the Seafood Po’Boy at $13 with either shrimp, oysters, grouper, or soft-shelled crab fried golden brown, served with lettuce and tomato. All come with a side dish.

Simple yet elegant fare is always fish — in this case grouper, mahi-mahi, or fresh catch — either blackened, grilled, jerked, or cooked in SKOB’s Signature Key Lime. A sandwich is $12 with one side, or entrée at $16 with two sides.

Side dishes, by the way, are french fries, cole slaw, steamed broccoli, yellow rice, corn on the cob, and red potatoes. Premium sides, at $1 more, are onion rings, grilled asparagus, sweet potato fries, or chef’s vegetable of the day.

Entrees number 11. Highlights are the Siesta Beach Extravaganza — crab cake, blackened grouper, and jerk shrimp and scallops ($23) — and Keith’s Seafood Tacos: either grouper, shrimp, mahi-mahi, or fresh catch of the day on warm flour tortillas, topped with lettuce, tomato, and cilantro cream sauce ($13). It comes either jerked, grilled, Key Lime, or blackened.

Keeping with the beach theme, Siesta Key Oyster Bar serves breakfast Sunday for the pre-beach crowd to grab a bite before hitting the sand.

There are the usual SKOBLETS, all at $11. Cougarville is a feature omelet with asparagus, portabella mushrooms, and goat cheese, served with pesto sauce.

A signature breakfast feast is the SCOB Benedict: Key-style Crab Cake with poached egg, asparagus, and Hollandaise sauce for $13.

All the “wake-up” meals come with two complimentary mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, or screwdrivers, by the way.
