The smiling faces of Monica Garrido and Robin Hofmann greet customers at A Taste of Germany of Siesta Key.
A Taste of Germany is in Siesta Village. Owner Tanja Hofmann opened the establishment two years ago. If the line of patrons on a recent weekday was any indication, the restaurant is a success.

A Taste of Germany serves German breads, cakes, deli sandwiches, coffee and other drinks from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. There is limited seating inside and out, making the place a perfect spot to stop and grab something for the beach. There is ample parking in the lot, too.

Breakfast croissants provide a good morning wake-up. A croissant with one egg, blackforest ham or chicken, lettuce, tomato, mayo or butter ($7.89) is a great way to start your day. A second egg is $1 more. Bacon with the above and one egg is $2 more; with two eggs and bacon and all the rest it’s $10.89.

No croissants for you? Go with a baguette roll with provolone, blackforest ham or chicken and lettuce, tomato, and mayo or butter for $8.95.

A German specialty at A Taste of Germany is a Bavarian Loaf: Pork loaf with one egg and a small hard roll for $10.99.

Sandwiches are popular, and the Robin Sandwich is a specialty. The sandwich has fresh mozzarella, chicken, organic lettuce, and pesto —basil, parmesan and romano cheese, garlic, pine nuts, and olive oil — served on multigrain ciabatta or a plain roll. It is served cold or warm with a bag of chips for $10.89.

The Roma is also a popular sandwich. Sundried tomato pesto is served with fresh mozzarella, balsamic vinegar, tomato, onion, cucumbers, and organic lettuce on a multigrain carrot roll or plain or multigrain ciabatta with a bag of chips for $10.89. Splurge by adding another $1 and get salami, blackforest ham, chicken or turkey pastrami.

Other sandwich highlights are the Woody Wood Pepper and the Mediterranean Spread, both priced at $10.89 and both offered on plain or multigrain ciabatta and a bag of chips.

The Wood Pepper has roasted red pepper and cheese spread with fresh mozzarella, chicken, and organic lettuce. The Mediterranean has olive sundried-tomato pepper herbs, and capers spread with chicken and organic lettuce.

No German restaurant is complete without bratwurst, and A Taste of Germany offers three varieties, all at $6.99, all served on a Kaiser or hard roll with German mustard or ketchup. The German bratwurst, or Bauern bratwurst, is a brat. There is also a chicken tomato-parmesan brat or Mozzarella roasted garlic brat. There is also a curry ketchep sauce served on a brat.

Brats on the beach? Perfect combo.

A Taste of Germany has myriad pastries. Most change often, all are prepared daily. Highlights are the Balck Cherry Lattice, chocolate croissant, cinnamon roll, German doughnut with raspberry filling, and apple, raspberry, and cheese Danish, all for $2.99.

There are also bagels, muffins, German pretzels, and coffee cakes.

A Taste of German offers coffees, teas, and hot cocoa for cold days, ice coffee and tea for warmer beach times.

“Everything is German, light, and fresh,” said Robin Hofmann. He added that there are daily specials to further tempt the dining desires of patrons.

And be sure to save room for dessert. Island Way sorbets are popular and offered with a slew of taste treats: mango-orange, lemon, red apple, green apple, pomegranate, cocoanut, or pina colada, priced from $3.59 to $4.89.

A Taste of Germany (5204 Ocean Blvd., 941-346-1800, www.atasteofgermany.net), does prove that German food and the beach make a match on Siesta Key.
