County approves another hotel

On Oct. 26, the Sarasota Board of County Commissioners approved a third Siesta Key hotel in unanimous fashion by a 5-0 vote. So, the green light is on for applicant Dave Balot to build a six-story, 112-room hotel at 5810 Midnight Pass Rd. — home to the former Wells Fargo bank.

The county’s planning commission on Sept. 1 also recommended the project by a unanimous vote.

A pair of lawsuits filed by Siesta Key residents against the county, alleging it ignored its own zoning and building rules, likely keeps all three approve hotels in limbo into trials are likely held next spring.

More details on this decision by county leaders will be covered in the December issue of Siesta Sand.
