County operations are now shut down

Sarasota County operations closed today, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m. due to preparations for Tropical Storm Idalia.

Expect Sarasota County operations to also be closed on Tuesday, Aug. 29, and Wednesday, Aug. 30, as the county works to support the Emergency Operations Center and the community during the event of the expected natural disaster.

EVACUATION CENTERS
Sarasota County will be opening evacuation centers at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning, Aug. 29.  Visit scgov.net/beprepared

SANDBAGS
Sandbag operations are scheduled to occur from 2-7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the following locations:
– Ed Smith Stadium, 2700 12th Street, Sarasota.
– Twin Lakes Park, 6700 Clark Road, Sarasota.
– South County Fleet, 4571 SR 776/Englewood Road, Venice.
Limit 10 sandbags per vehicle. Shovels and bags will be available onsite. Changes in weather patterns impact sandbag operation times.
