First of monthly Midnight Pass-related reports submitted to commissioners

Joe Neunder, the Sarasota County commissioner whose District 4 territory includes what was once a tidal connection between Siesta Key and Casey Key known as Midnight Pass, on Feb. 21 received his first of what will be a monthly report on the topic provided by the county’s staff.

The commission is taking steps toward possibly restoring the waterway that connected the Gulf of Mexico with Little Sarasota Bay. It was filled-in in 1983 and an effort to reroute it failed.

The first report served as mostly a historical account with some details on what may lie ahead. Here it is:
