The group of people working toward making Siesta Key its own municipality is holding a public meeting at 7 p.m. July 22 at the Siesta Key Chapel, 4615 Gleason Ave.

Its goal is to collect petition signatures and raise money in order to submit an application for incorporation to the Florida Legislature by the start of September. The group is called Save Siesta Key.

The theme of the July 22 meeting is “understanding Government Lite,” a concept the group is endorsing that calls for local elected officials but still the outsourcing of many community needs.

As of July 12, Save Siesta Key has received $80,589 in donations from 106 people.
