Crystal Waters estate sells for $21.95 million

On Sept. 17, Crystal Waters, the custom-built waterfront estate at 8501 Midnight Pass Road on Siesta Key, sold for $21.95 million.

The seller was philanthropist Crystal Lahners. She and her late husband, Dr. William Lahners, a prominent Sarasota eye surgeon with Center for Sight, purchased the property in 2019 for $3.125 million.

After demolishing the previous residence and tennis courts, the couple began construction on a new home in 2021. While vacationing in the Bahamas in December 2021, William Lahners died at age 53.

The residence, one of the largest on Siesta Key, was completed in 2024 and first listed for sale in February 2025 for $31.5 million. The listing was removed in January and returned to the market in June for $29.9 million with Kim Ogilvie and Lynn Morris of the Kim Ogilvie Group at Michael Saunders & Co. The sale was completed 45 days later.

Sitting on 2.78 waterfront acres overlooking Little Sarasota Bay, the 10,001-square-foot main residence features six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, three half-bathrooms and an oversized three-car garage.

A 1,600-square-foot guesthouse has two bedrooms, one bathroom and its own four-car garage. The property also features a 52-foot saltwater pool, tennis courts, fountains and a 90-foot dock with deep-water access.

Edward and Julie Burke purchased Crystal Waters. They were represented by buyer’s agents Andrew Greenwell and Kelly Mooney of Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

Stofft Cooney Architects of Naples designed the West Indies-inspired residence, which was custom-built by Chris Jorgensen of Florida West Builders in Sarasota.
