Family-owned restaurant opens on Superior Avenue with traditional Greek dishes
By Jane Bartnett
Nikki’s Greek Cafe has added a taste of the Mediterranean to Gulf Gate, opening in early November on Superior Avenue in the space formerly occupied by Tortellino Bistro.

The family-owned restaurant is led by chef Achilles Kouskoutis, whose menu draws heavily from traditional Greek cuisine and cherished family recipes. Offerings include familiar favorites such as gyros, souvlaki and spinach pies, along with classic entrees like moussaka, pastitsio and dolmades inspired by his Greek grandmother’s cooking.
The intimate dining space is warm and welcoming, with beer and wine available, vegetarian options and a children’s menu. The casual atmosphere makes Nikki’s Greek Cafe a family-friendly option for lunch, dinner or takeout.
Greek cuisine reflects centuries of tradition and regional influence. As a Mediterranean nation, Greece’s food culture has been shaped by Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman history, blending Eastern and Western flavors. Olive oil, vegetables, fish, lamb and pork are staples, along with herbs such as oregano, thyme, rosemary and mint.
Greek feta cheese — made primarily from sheep’s milk and cured in brine — is a cornerstone ingredient, prized for its salty, tangy flavor. Lemon, yogurt, honey and fresh vegetables further define the cuisine, known for being vibrant, hearty and wholesome.

At Nikki’s Greek Cafe, diners can sample a wide range of traditional dishes, including spreads and dips served with pita bread, classic street food sandwiches, pasta dishes, soups, salads and hearty entrees.
