A restroom building will be constructed at the south part of Nora Patterson Bay Island Park, near the north bridge, on Siesta Drive. A groundbreaking took place Feb. 16.
The building will also feature an observation deck and storage area.
The Sarasota County Board of Commissioners signed off on the project in January, at a cost of an estimated $927,740, with a completion goal of August.
Costs will be split between the city of Sarasota and the county.
The park was given its name in 2015 in tribute to Patterson, a former county commissioner.
