Boating on the Suncoast is one of the most popular ways to soak up Siesta Key. But how safe is the vessel you own or rent? The US Coast Guard cites failure of boat machinery and equipment as one major cause of accidents, deaths and injuries. For instance, the USCG states engine failure was to blame for 148 accidents, leading to 7 deaths and 36 injuries in 2017. Ensuring your boat is properly serviced and maintained can save you in terms of safety, time and money.
That’s where Siesta Key Marina’s Service Department can help. The authorized Yamaha dealer services Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, and Evinrude engines, as well as offering all boat side services. Service department manager Rob Ketterman says they are a one-stop-shop for everything from upholstery to motors. “We’re unique in the way we can handle all of your boating needs, without having to trailer your boat here, you can enjoy lunch and a beer in Spear Fish restaurant while you wait on your service.” You can also rent a boat to use while yours is getting serviced.
Whether you’re on the water weekly, or a returning snow bird, taking care of your boat should be a top priority, particularly in the Florida heat and sun. The Yamaha website states all outboards live in the “harshest environments imaginable. High load, high- RPM operation, extreme temperatures and humidity, saltwater, sun, even long periods of non-use can all exact a heavy toll.”
Siesta Key Marina Crew Member Bianca Babbitt says the majority of the work they do is the all-important annual service. According to Yamaha, it’s also one you can’t afford to skip. “You’ll preserve your investment with a higher retail value. It’s easier and costs less to maintain then repair.”
Siesta Key Marina’s sister company, Andros Boatworks, also offers many services that add to the one-stop-shop uniqueness of SKM. Andy Eggebrecht says “Andros offers full marine construction, custom boat building, marine metal (both aluminum and stainless), fabrication, upholstery, fiberglass repair, reconstruction and more.
Whether you simply ‘winter’ in Sarasota or you’re a regular on the water, be sure the service is up to date on your boat. If you need help, or have questions regarding which services you may need, you can call Siesta Key Marina and ask for Rob (941-349-1970).
