There were a total of 28 crimes reported on the Key between 5/23-6/19/18

5/28/18 Theft
Public Beach

A man playing football at the beach reported his phone stolen. The iPhone X was inside a duffel bag, which also contained two older phones and a wallet. The iPhone X ($1000) was the only item missing. There were no suspects or witnesses.

5/31/18 Theft
Public Beach

A woman reported the theft of some items in a beach bag that had been left unattended and unsecured. The beach bag ($100) contained an iPhone 6S ($1000) and 2 pair of prescription eyewear ($1000) each. There were no suspects or witnesses.

6/1/18 Grand Theft
6500 Block Midnight Pass Rd.

Upon returning from her vacation at a Siesta Resort, a woman noticed that some jewelry was missing from her purse. She said she wore it on multiple occasions while vacationing at the resort. It was unclear when the jewelry was taken but she had been to the pool area and had her purse with her at that time. The woman was clear that she had not lost the articles and that they had been stolen while she was at the resort. She filed the report at the request of her insurance company. The purse contained 3 necklaces ($300 each), a ring ($300) and a bracelet ($300).

6/1/18 Theft
Public Beach

A man reported a theft. He stated while he was at the public beach an unknown person took his beach bag containing two LG cellphones. The phones were valued at $400 each. There were no suspects or witnesses.

6/3/18 Grand Theft
400 Canal Rd.

A Trek Bicycle valued at $800 was reported stolen. The brown bike had been left unattended and unsecure for approximately three hours. There were no suspects.

6/6/18 Possession of Controlled Substance
200 Beach Rd.

Officers on patrol observed two vehicles parked in the Access 5 parking lot after the official 12am closing time. One vehicle was occupied with four subjects inside. Upon making contact with the subjects a large amount of white powder (cocaine) was seen covering a cell phone that the front passenger dropped on the side floorboard. Another deputy noticed the rear passenger using his hand to conceal something. Since illegal narcotics were seen in plain view the occupants were asked to step out of the vehicle. Upon the opening of a rear door deputies immediately observed a small square (appearing to be LSD) with a rainbow coloring design on the top half. There was also a clear plastic bag containing another small square on the floor. Both men were detained and placed in handcuffs. A field test was administered which had positive results for LSD. The white powder tested positive for cocaine. Both men were arrested on drug charges.

6/7/18 Petit Theft
Public Beach

A man reported an unknown subject stole his wallet from the beach. He had placed his wallet on the sand and placed a shirt over it while he went into the water. When he came back around 30 minutes later, he noticed his wallet was gone. He never saw anyone on the beach near his wallet. The wallet contained his FL driver’s license and 3 pre-paid debit cards.

6/10/18 Battery
Public Beach

An intoxicated man approached an officer to report an unknown man had punched him in the face and took his guitar. He then stated he had given the guitar to the unknown man to play. He also stated he and the unknown male were friends but that he could not remember his name. Additionally, he and the unknown man often hung out and played the guitar. The complainant described the man as a white male in his 60’s with no shirt on. The complainant wished to press charges for the battery. There were no physical injuries and the victim stated he was not hurt. The suspect could not be located and no further action was taken.
