Siesta Key resident Mark Smith narrowly defeated Fredd Atkins in the Nov. 8 election for the District 2 seat on the Sarasota Board of County Commissioners.
Smith received 50.8% of the vote (18,966) and Atkins 49.2% (18,425).
The other race that impacts Siesta Key was won by Joe Neunder in District 4, as he beat Daniel Kuether with 59.5% of the vote.
Both Smith and Neunder are Republicans.
